so i've had an alright week.
at the start of it, it was the holidays. it was great! i didn't have to do anything! and that's my favourite way to be.
so those nice celadore boys invited me to come down to cape paterson with them, to hang out while they recorded their hotel in a lovely beach house.
yeah. "hang out". what a crock of shit. i did fucking EVERYTHING, while dave, tom and coops just sat around eating cake and drinking beer all day. i laid down guitars, bass, some tambourine, take after take of throat-wrenching, emotion-fueled vocal lines... and they just sat there and told me it wasn't good enough, i'd have to do it again. even davin barely moved; i had to engineer most of it myself.
oh wait maybe i am confusedoh yeah. that's right. i'm the one who ate the cake and drank the beer. they were delicious.
i sat around for a few days and watched a few very talented young men work some musical magic. and let me tell you, it sounds absolutely amazing. a treat for the ears, and a shiver for the spine. celadore truly are like a fine wine (lol get it), they're only getting better and better with age. (until they hit their peak and taste like shit. but that's probably not for another couple of months.)
i wanted to single out a member of the band here and say how impressed i was with them, but truthfully i can't pick one.
dave has learnt all of the songs so quickly, and oh man has he made them his own. he is an absolute machine on the drums! you really don't know what you have until it's gone.
tom is ten times the bass player i am. he plays like he means it. but he doesn't quit there. he has a real ear for nice lines, and was forever suggesting scarlett stuff. and he's a funny bastard to boot. it's hard to be the funniest guy in the room when he's around (but i reckon i still was).
coops just keeps getting better! he knows exactly what he's doing, and he'll stop at nothing to do it right. and his voice is absolutely amazing. he's always had a magical set of cords, but more than ever, he really knows how to use them.
as a group, these guys really just inspire me to get my arse into gear and do something awesome. or just sit on a couch and watch
them do something awesome. which i did. a lot.
but i did help out sometimes. i set stuff up, and washed dishes, and took some photos. i even decorated the front lawn.
from the balcony. with the contents of my stomach.unfortunately (for me), i had to leave halfway through the recording, to head back to civilisation and play a gig. as i drove away, i leant out the window to wave dramatically to everyone who was seeing me off from the balcony - only there was nobody there, and i died a little inside. arseholes were probably watching south park.
oh man, i'm not even up to the weekend. this is long.
i went up to cape paterson on wednesday, and i drove back on friday. i was hoping to have some time to take a nap or something, but i barely got home in time before the statics rehearsal that night. i think probably everyone noticed i wanted to be sleeping the entire time. apparently doing nothing really takes it out of you.
on saturday, i had the good fortune of meeting up with my good friend riley for the first time ever. you see, riley (aka rilstix) is a way cool dude from queensland who i met on the internet (i know, great start to a story, huh) a couple of years ago. he makes flash animations that put mine to shame. and on saturday was the first ever melbourne newgrounds meet-up (newgrounds = awesome flash portal site dealie). coincidentally, riley also had tickets to a tripod show on sunday night (because an animation he made is in the show), and so with all the planets aligning, he flew down to melbourne for the weekend.
we met up in the city and wandered around for a while before meeting up with the other people who'd decided to show up for the newgrounds meet-up. we weren't really sure what to expect. it ended up being a group of about 15 of us, and all of the dudes i met were really cool. we hung out, we had lunch, we drank beers, we played laser tag (coincidentally, the tutorial movie at the laser tag place was animated by one of the guys in the group), and we drank more beers. they were good guys and we had good times.
i had to shove off early to head to the statics gig at bang that night, so i dunno what they got up to for the rest of the night. but i got up to some crazy adventures. well, not really.
the gig was fun i guess? it was really cool seeing san salvador for the first time in ages. those guys are still awesome. but i swear there's something cursed about bang, because when we hit the stage, exactly the same thing happened as it did last time we played there: gez broke about seventeen strings. it was crazy, they just wouldn't stop.
so after we finished playing (with a very hilariously happy shaun and mick, fresh from grape grazing all afternoon), i was pretty keen to get the hell home, so we packed up and shipped out. dave (super awesome dude/statics merch guy) kindly offered to give myself, kev and riley a lift home (to kilsyth, not queensland), so everything was peachy and we headed back to his car. unfortunately nothing was peachy anymore when we got there, because somebody had smashed dave's car window and rooted around inside looking for valuables. luckily there was nothing of value inside, so the only real damage was to the window, but dave was understandably unhappy about it. he cheered up for the most part on the way home though. so yeah. awesome end to an awesome gig.
on sunday, i went to work like the thrillseeker i am. riley headed into the city to... riley it up. the plan was for al, kev and myself to meet him in the city later for the tripod gig. the only problem was that it started at 5, and i finished work at 5. anyway, we got there at about 6:20, just in time to watch everyone walk out of the venue. fantastic. oh well, they were free tickets anyway, and riley got to see the show. that's what counts. i think.
we grabbed some subway and headed home to a night of curry, super mario world and guitar hero. and bed. lots of bed.
i had to wake up at 8am on monday morning, and say a tired and cranky goodbye to riley as i dropped him off on my way to school. first class monday morning after the holidays wasn't exactly awesome. i had to stick my shoes under my eyelids to keep them open.
so yeah. that was my week. awesome times, and now i'm back at school (which i like. don't get me wrong. i just hate getting up early and going home late. and i'm not entirely fond of drawing naked men).
so just to start another line with the word "so", i'm gonna go to bed now (bed now), and enjoy my first sleep-in of the school term. sux2bu for reading all of this.
summing up: i am tired, buy the celadore EP when it comes out cause it's gonna blow your tits off, rilstix is a real cool guy, getting up early is the devil's game.
there. there's your freaking blog. are you happy now?
